For no other reason than a gut feeling about him and having first listened to Tony Blackburn in the mid 1960s out of a radio ship moored in the North Sea approx 4 miles from where I live now, I am inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt as to his implied contention that his so-called interviews by the BBC authorities in the early 1970s did not take place and were fictitiously minuted as part of some sort of 'blind eye' ticking of boxes of formal procedure.
TB may not be whiter than white in his behaviour during those early years, but the BBC's sacking of him now looks like a travesty. Still, there have sadly been so many victims who have badly suffered from misinformation over the years, and TB is but a drop in the ocean, but his case may be usefully emblematic of that situation.
